Welcome to my showcase of design ideas and inspiration for custom home décor, flattering window treatments and other soft furnishings. I have been blessed by being invited into many beautiful homes and meeting the nicest people. I am among the fortunate few who truly enjoy a fulfilling and rewarding profession. Thank you for looking at my work.

The word toile comes from a French word meaning  “linen cloth” or “canvas”, a  cloth for painting on. Toile fabrics will have a white or off white background and use one primary color, most often black, blue or a dark red. The fabrics will use a repeating pattern that depict a theme usually pastoral, showing people and small animals in nature. This green toile fabric is used on a balloon valance. The balloon valance style allows the pastoral scene to be perfectly centered on each billow, conveying the romance that is associated with this type of fabric.

The most beautiful windows are very often the hardest to choose a window treatment style for. Making the most of this wall of windows without obstructing the view is essential.  Using floor to ceiling length draperies that are kept tied back allow the window to remain in full view, while accentuating the asset of the window, its’ height. The panels are gathered on  decorative drapery rods that highlight the ends and center of the windows, allowing the hard window edges to be softened. Motorized honeycomb shades are used for light control. The elegant tone on tone fabric gives the room depth and warmth without being busy. This window treatment certainly allows the beautiful asset to be revealed.

Is it acceptable to use two different window treatment styles in the same room? The best window treatments should evolve from the need to solve a problem, or simply create something special in a room. The treatments do not have to be the same style if the windows are in the same room. Often the shape and size of the windows should be the first determining factor. As shown in this room, both windows are in a box out frame, however, they are two totally different shapes, so mixing the styles is a perfect solution. The door wall is long and tall and the side by side windows are short forming a window seat. The door wall style is perfect for pinch pleated drapery panels hung with rings from a decorative rod. The smaller side by side windows use two inch horizontal blinds for privacy but is softened by the Roman shades. Using the same checked fabric for the two different window treatments helps to bring the room together visually.

When decorating today there are no set rules as what type of window treatment coordinates with what style of furnishings. Your room should be a statement that conveys your personal style and defines the mood or look of the room. These  tailored cornice boards with drapery panels set a subtle mood to this monochromatic room. The color of the treatment blends with the wall color and the cream cording at the top and bottom edge of the cornice, pulls in the chair color accenting the neutral palette. This room conveys a sophisticated yet simple style.
