Changing tastes have caused the evolution of decorating styles. Every style is varied and has benefits to those who enjoy it. What is current today is not always what is the best for your home and your taste. The most important element in decorating is to make it yours. Be inspired by styles you’ve seen or places you have visited. Find ways to make it be comfortable, creative and individual.

A traditional room is classic and timeless, the use of warm tones in this room make it inviting and homey. With a total of four large windows in the same room, window treatments can easily become overpowering. By selecting these non-functioning drapery panels the window treatments are kept to a minimal. The drapery panels hang from a beautiful decorative rod, framing the window edges. The drapery fabric compliments the deep burgundy and gold tones used throughout the room.

A valance, sewn directly into the top portion of each drapery panel adds visual interest, without becoming overdone. Tassel fringe is added and frames the bottom edge of the valance, giving the drapery panels additional detail.

Together the elements of this room create an overall ambiance that is classic, inviting and truly this homeowners style.

Even with a  small window treatment the difference between custom and ready made window coverings can be easily seen, as is evident in this inverted box pleat valance. Note how the fabric pattern is uninterrupted. Although there is  an inverted pleat that falls six inches in on the sides of the valance, the pattern remains consistent and uninterrupted. Ready-made window coverings often lack this precise pattern alignment. The attention to detail in custom window treatments will give you a professional look you will be proud to hang on your windows. Inverted box pleat

Window seat

This window seat was uninviting and needed not only a functional window treatment but a comfy cushion to sit on.  The sunlight had to be controlled during the day to keep the heat at bay and privacy was needed at night.   A Roman shade and a cozy seat cushion make this box out window seat a cozy space to call your own.

The tailored style of the Roman shade  fits within the window casings  so as not to interfere when sitting on the cushion.  When raised the Roman shade stacks into soft folds. The window seat is made from the same fabric as the Roman shade and is corded with a matching welt, creating an inviting space.

Adding ribbon to  sheer drapery panels is an economical way to add style. The white sheer fabric is contrasted with a black grosgrain ribbon that is set in slightly from the side hems.  This gives these simple drapery panels an updated look. The color contrast is classic yet modern. The panels are shirred on a brushed nickel decorative rod and finished on the ends with a beautiful glass finial.

Another economical solution is to use the same ribbon to create a tie-back for the drapery panel, which can be easily undone to let the drapery panels hang freely at the side of the window.

Box pleat valance

When you have a room that has many windows, as this kitchen and eating area do, keeping the style simple and basic  as far as fabric selection and window treatments is all that is needed.  The valance is an inverted box pleat which creates a tailored, clean look. The inverted pleats are used only at the corners of the valance for the small windows. The pleats on the larger windows as well as the door wall are kept at the same width that was used on the small windows creating a perfectly proportioned valance. These valances are creatively hung using an industrial strength hook and loop tape  sewn into the treatment, which allows for the valance to be easily taken down and replaced for cleaning and decorating purposes.
