Trends are always changing. The new fresh take on a traditional look, blends classic styling with modern design elements. Pairing a traditional floral, as used on the chairs, with the updated diamond patterned fabric on the window treatments, creates a refreshing look to a traditional design.

Calming palettes in subtle shades of blue will continue to be a popular choice as the trends continue into the new year. The addition of light grays, soft pinks, varying taupe colors and mystic whites will evoke tranquility and simplicity with upcoming trends. Minimal subtle details will be key, like these buttons and brown contrast cording, giving just the right amount of interest.

It is the unusual styles, uniquely hued walls or fabric and unexpected elements that get people to notice your room. Lively colored walls deserve a creative, unique window treatment, but, be careful not to let the room get to overwhelming. The color for the window treatment will work best if it is repeated somewhere else in the room, perhaps in the upholstery, a rug or even artwork. Use different fabric textures, trim or hardware to create a one of a kind style that gets your room noticed.

When selecting fabric for your window treatments, it is important not only to consider colors, texture and design, but pattern repeat and how that helps determine the style that works best.
Bay window

The color and updated pattern on the fabric selection for this bay window was perfect. The pattern motif and repeat posed a challenge, limiting the styles possible for the window design. The solution a tailored, roman valance.  A roman valance is pleated horizontally giving a modern, contemporary look.

The valance was hung directly onto the box out above the windows, keeping the view out the window open. A smaller version of the valance was then hung directly on the front of the door, allowing the door to remain functional. Matching the pattern was key to this window design. Notice how the pattern meets perfectly, creating an exact match, giving the illusion that the pleats do not even exist. With careful design and selection your windows have met their match.

This room uses a touch of color to its’ advantage. Neutral walls and sofa, allow the homeowner to add an accent of color to the window treatment. A flat valance panel with asymmetrical jabots, is a more casual look than swags, perfect for this family room setting. The different length jabots give the window treatment a unique look. The shorter length jabot was then the perfect size for the small higher transient window.
