The windows have blinds but the doors have a privacy issue.
One of my favorite window treatments, simple, tailored, uncluttered. Notice the use of a contrast fabric inside the pleats and the 3/8″ binding along the bottom edge. This pleated valance is board mounted with hook and loop tape making it easy for the homeowner to take it down periodically to clean or to easily access the window beneath.
This kitchen had many large windows with plenty of room above them. With so many hard surfaces in the room such as the cupboards, counter tops, table and chairs, hardwood floors etc., a little softness was needed. Valances did just the trick. Here we used a subtle print and added double pinch pleats uniformly spaced to make up the valance. As an added feature, covered buttons, pulling out the blue in the fabric, were attached at the base of each pleat. These valances were hung many inches above the window filling up the empty space and giving the windows more height.
A cornice board is a four sided box usually made out of wood used to decorate a window. It is considered to be a form of hard window treatment. In effect it is a valance that can be covered with padding and fabric, it can be stained or painted and even covered with wallpaper.
You will find here a rather simple rectangular cornice with just a hint of detail on its face. Contrast piping is used at the seams on the larger cornice over the door wall. The fabric is 54 inches wide with the cornice being much wider. Factor in the small print, which is very difficult to match when seaming together, the piping became a great solution. Piping was then strategically used on the other cornices in the room. Vertical and horizontal blinds allow for sun control and privacy when needed.
Add some whimsey to your room and create an awning from fabric. In this window treatment we used a black and white check to create the awning and followed the check pattern for the hem designs along the bottom edge creating a toothed effect.
